Healthy Choices Boost Your Immune System

Many of the listed below are staples and part of a culinary experiences in cultures around the world.

They are also regularly consumed by us in our daily green smoothy and of course always organic.

Why might we be interested in consuming these? Below are a few benefits amongst others, that we have learned to value.

1. Garlic

Even regular small amounts of garlic are said to activate liver enzymes and they support our bodies efforts in flushing out toxins. Garlic also offers the body allicin and selenium and is said to aid the body in ridding of parasites, such as worms for example.

2. Grapefruit

It is well known that citrus fruits boost liver production and it is no secret that they are loaded with Vitamin C. We like grapefruit, oranges, limes, and lemons in our smoothies, they support our innate cleansing abilities of detoxing carcinogens and other toxins out of our liver.

3. Beets and Carrots

WE LOVE BEETS, they are decorative in salads or as a refreshing snack, when sliced a certain way. Beats are relatively easy to grow and young gardeners can be sure to have a positive experience. Fresh picked from the garden, pealed and relatively thinly sliced, orange and red beats can entice picky eaters with their sweet flavor.

Beets and carrots are known to have more flavonoids and beta-carotene, that is said to support in overall liver activity amongst other great benefits.

4. Leafy Green Vegetables

Did you eat your three plates full today?

Herbs, spices …all green leafy counts.

We learned they are our most powerful allies, cleansing the liver.

Sucking environmental toxins from the blood stream and having high chlorophyll content, they neutralizing heavy metals, pesticides and help flush out other unwanted chemicals from our bodies.

We’ve used all kinds of leafy greens in our smoothies and with a wedge of lemon or lime, you might be surprised to hear that it can be difficult to detect all the green goodness in a smoothie.

That’s right, even bitter as arugula, dandelion greens, or other greens such as; spinach, mustard greens (only in small amounts), watercress, broccoli and other sprouts, green cabbage leaves, mint leaves, fennel, bok-choy, etc., add some lemon and/or lime!

Look up what an increase of bile flow can do to support your wellness efforts.

5. Avocados

This nutrient-dense superfood helps the body produce glutathione, a compound that is necessary for the liver, in ridding harmful toxins.

6. Apples

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away”, who remembers this saying?

High in pectin, apples hold the chemical constituents necessary for the body to cleanse and release toxins from the digestive tract. This, in turn, makes it easier for the liver to handle the toxic load during the cleansing process.

7. Oil’s

Moderate use of cold-pressed organic oils such as olive oil, is a staple in our home for cooking up vegetable over medium heat in a regular pan. ..Just long enough to soften the vegetables a bit and to aid the maximum absorption of the vegetables vitamins during consumption.

However for our green morning smoothy we use regularly seeds, such as hulled hemp, flaxseed (brown only) and chia.

Put in a search of your own and explore their benefits.

8. Lemons and Limes

Always and of course organic. We prep them by washing and cutting them into quarters or smaller if they are bigger. Then we freeze them and they are ready to use a slice at a time, with the peel, seeds and all.

9. Spices

Turmeric, garlic, ginger and a bit of chili powder, are all awesome to add to a green smoothy. We know that just a little bit of regular chili powder use can aid the cleansing of the lining in the colon.

We use turmeric to give the liver a boost, flushing out dietary toxins and we love to benefit from simple anti-inflammatory aid options, same as with garlic.

Be encouraged to start researching on your own again, not falling into the widespread traps of various industries and totally relying on “the draw of the winner” through autosuggestions or impulsive eating.

Learn what you can do to support your own innate healing capabilities and boost you wellbeing and that of your family.

Set out to find answers to;

How much do I need to eat each day?

Is nutritional quantity and quality more important than the amount of food on each plate?

How much variety of a specific nutrient, vitamin or mineral should I eat each day and is it important to consume these from a variety of different sources, for maximum balanced intake and benefit?

10. Tip:

  • We don’t mix vegetables and fruits in our smoothie and we prefer not to juice.

Fruits digest two ours faster than vegetables and can cause digestive discomforts, such as bloating.

However we found it safe to use an apple, pear, avocado or celery sticks in either, fruit or vegetable smoothies.

  • We love to explore the Oregon Outback.

When exploring the Oregon high desert, temperatures can get really hot. Feeling of hunger is generally suppressed, until the cooler part of the days set in and you have to kick it up a notch throughout the day with the water intake.

We learned that if you don’t urinate every hour even a little bit, it can be a sign of really needing to watch for signs of possible dehydration that is about to set in.

To our delight next to water containing fruit and vegetable like tomato, apple, cucumber, etc., eating a hand full of washed salad greens (kept in the cooler), can be extremely satisfying and refreshing.

  • There is something to be said about the use of garlic in so many cultures.

Why is that so important for so many?

We once learned via a veterinary doctor, that adding small amounts to home cooked dog food, can help their system to eliminate worms.

Well, many people these days have parasites and don’t even know they do and are wondering why they have many unexplained signs and symptoms.

  • Check around the blenders blade component and its mechanism regularly.

We have found that there can be despite regular vigorous cleaning efforts, trapped mold and no doubt also nasty bacteria luring or even rust and metal particles from cheep nuts and washers, etc.

We have tried several blenders over the past years and have at this point found that commercial all inclusive stainless steal blenders, or as much as possible stainless steal, are best to use for any regular household.

Inspect your kitchen appliances and in particular your blender regularly. If you find wiggling space between the blade components and where the food touches the inner blender, chances are your will find some nasty stuff with targeted rinsing and shaking.
